Other Ways to Help

Beyond Construction…

Habitat for Humanity is about more than just construction sites and ReStores! There’s truly something for everyone to do to help eliminate poverty housing from our region and our world. All ages and all talents are welcome to get involved!

Committees and Advisory Teams

Habitat for Humanity is a grass-roots, volunteer-led organization and it’s our committees and teams who plan, support and carry out much of the work we do. Email michelle@ncmhabitat.org for more information on any of the committees in which you can help listed below:

  • Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative and Critical Repair
  • Development
  • Faith Partnership
  • Family Selection
  • Family Support
  • Finance
  • Site Selection and Design
  • Volunteer Support

Family Advocates

Family advocate volunteers give support and guidance to newly-selected Habitat partner families from the time they are selected through to homeownership. To be a Habitat Family Advocate you should have the traits listed below.

  • A caring, people-friendly personality
  • The ability to work closely with different ethnic, socio-economic, family-type groups
  • An awareness of the challenges facing low-income families in our society
  • A desire to help people reach their goals

Family Advocate Training is provided, and Advocates are supported by members of the Family Support Team who are all current or former advocates themselves.

Office Administration and Support

We need friendly, cheerful volunteers to answer the telephone, greet visitors and help with general office duties. Clerical and/or administrative experience is required. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM.

Mailings and Special Events

Volunteers can help with labelling, stuffing and sorting our mailings ready for the nice people at the post office. We also host occasional special events and need help doing everything from serving coffee to handing out brochures.

Construction Site Hosts

Habitat Site hosts are really public relations people working “in the field” – making sure volunteer groups from local corporations and business have a terrific experience with us. Because these groups make financial contributions to our mission in addition to their physical labor, we want to thank them by doing all we can to ensure they have a great day.

The time commitment for site hosts is 8:10AM to approximately 10AM on the days we have corporate groups scheduled (usually Fridays but can occasionally be other days). Once construction is underway, the site host is free to go. Training is required. Learn more by reading: “What exactly does a site host do?”

Corporate Group Lunch Providers

Provide simple lunches for volunteer construction crews (10-12 people) from local businesses and corporations working with us. This is a great volunteer opportunity for groups!
